i am going to have to put my vote in for no, no expert here but i think the ls1 based motors have a diferent bell housing than the old small block style motors. you are talking about a 99 5.7 out of a truck right?

I say yes, the 4l60e has been around for a while now, and has been used on previous trucks. The bellhousing is different, you can get one from chevy parts, but the problem is finding the correct programming for the tranny to match the 5.7s computer.

once again i am not sure of this info but it seems like all of the pre ls1 trannys didn't have a removeable bell housing, also if you goto a tranny site like Hughes they always seperate the ls1's and newer from the pre ls1's so there is some diference.
