Question about evap system

The SSR manifold I bought has a fitting built into the intake where I can plug in my evap line from the gas tank. Only problem is that it would bypass the evap solenoid completely if I did that. Do I need the solenoid? What does it do?

I that you shoudl be ok. I know if you disconnect that line at the tank you will get a small or gross leak code. but if you effectively plug that line, all that I gather would happen is that instead of purging gas tank vapors into your intake, now the canister solenoid will vent it to atmosphere. As long as you keep that solenoid hooked up and allow the PCM to cycle it to make sure it's working I think you'll be ok.

Actually what I am talking about is running the line straight from the gas tank to the intake manifold and removing the solenoid, so the tank and intake would always be "connected" directly.

I think the only problem you may have there is a believe the computers do a startup routine to make sure that solenoid is operating. Not sure what happens when you remove that solenoid. Maybe someone else has a better idea. I looked into this when I cracked my evap can, but I think I forgot it after smelling that damn differential fluid a couple weeks back.

The vent solenoid on the canister is normally closed when the engine is running and open when off. The purge solenoid normally does not open until the criteria in the tune are met(see tables B0501 to B0504 in EFILive). Not sure what will happen if it is always open.
There is a diagnostic at startup that cycles the 2 solenoids and monitors tank pressure/vac to test for leaks and proper functioning of the components. So you will have some DTCs to disable.

Yeah I've seen that diagram...I don't have the stock SSR rails, I have the stock truck rails mounted to the SSR manifold. I may see how much the SSR setup costs with lines and everything, but I think I'm just going to try to find a way to mount my original solenoid somewhere and make my own lines. Thanks for the info
