Default quest for a quiet valvetrain

alright so as im sure most of you regulars have read, ive been having some serious issue with my valvetrain. i never knew i purchased a diesel? v8 recommended me to put some 10w40 in to see if it can keep my lifters pumped up and i hate to say it but it didnt work. im pretty sure my only choice now is to replace my heads and lifters to kill 2 birds with one stone of labor. BTW i already retorqued my rockers and that didnt help either....

any other ideas?

I'd start out by figuring out what exact size push rod you really need. This requires a push rod length-checker.

See if you can answer some of these questions for me :

1. What cam are you running?
2. Do you know the size of the base circles, of the cam?
3. Stock rockers?
3. What type of ticking are you hearing?
4. When do you hear it relative to RPM?
5. Does it tap after a WOT run?

alot of guys on tech use 7.425" pushrods instead of 7.400 to get rid of alot of the noise. pushrod length checker is the best way IMO.

1- FMS F5 224/228 .588 .576 112
2- 1.480" base circle.
3- yes
4- its hard to call it a "tick" ive heard ticking and its not even close, its the type of sound you hear still with your windows down at freeway speed it echos off walls and other cars. ask beau. he has a tick, i have a diesel
5- i havent gone WOT in a while because im babying the tranny but from what i remember, it doesnt. it generally gets worse up to full operating temperature. when street driving arond less than 45mph, its not that loud but when im cruising on the freeway, its loud. it doesnt vary with rpm.

BTW i was with beau when we change his pushrods to 7.425, i know mine are a little short but i can guarantee you that in no way accounts for this sound.

no i havent tried anything to remedy this, ill be getting my heads back from the machine shop soon, i have new lifters and gaskets at the house so ill be swapping my heads and lifters in a couple weeks to see if that helps.

now if it's bearing noise that loud then damn, new motor here i come. replacing my heads is benefit 3 fold. higher compression, new valve seals=now more qt/week consumption, and access to lifters

i had gone too 7.35 after milling .050 and aftermarket cam and mine sounded like a diesel so I went back to 7.4 and it quited down some. Ive heard the lifters can soak up alot I wouldnt worry about going to 7.425

The valve trains on these LSx motors are just real noisey. I had some very loud tapping like what you are mentioning (echoing off walls), and it ended up being the o-ring on the pick up tube.

Have you tried replacing this?
