pulling in the anchor on my 5.3l

I've been doing lots of reading here, seems I've found a new obsession!
I will be changing my truck soon enough but putting all the pieces in order is a challenge. My '06 1500 crew is slow ( no **** you say ). I'm not lookin' to set the world on fire. No drag racing or mad burn outs up and down the street, at least not on my street. This is a daily driver, work and family truck. A tune seems like the most bang for the buck. I am also thinking a TR TR220/220-114 or Cheater cam. I'm not sure if lt headers are worth the $$$ but I am looking at MBRP cat back. Has anyone had Thunder do their programing seeing as the cam comes from them? I've googled for custome tuners in the MA area and have come up with nothing. I do not feel confident doing my own programming.
Any thought on the process is much appreciated? Thanks

LT headers are worth every penny IMO. the cam you're looking at seems pretty good for making some good power without sacrificing a lot of drivability, but you're probably going to want/need a torque converter with a higher stall (around 2800 rpm stall should be good). nelson performance does some good mail order tunes and the tune definately is worth it. just with a tune you can pick up about half a second with the 06's since the stock tune wont let you enter PE (performance enrichment) mode until mid second gear. I tune myself with hptuners since Im always changing things. gears would help a good bit too.

cam is too big in a crew cab with your wants IMO.
The biggest cam I woudl go with in your possesion(sp?) is the 212/218 comp high lift. Ask wheatley. He is running this in a 5.3 crew cab with minor bolt ons.

I've heard the TR220/220 in a 6.0 and it sounds wonderful, not sure about a 5.3
As for tuning I would look to Allen Nelson - I live in the same city as where Thunder is located and I'll just say that I'm not too impressed

if you're looking for a custom tune in MA, you can get a Wester's tune. i don't know where in Mass. you live, but Butch Brochu of Middleton, MA (near Andover and Peabody) is the US rep. for Wester's tuneing. he is where i got mine from. i am quite happy with it. PM me if you want for more info.
