I just bought a 05 CC silverado. I put a KN FIPK on it and I am going to put a Magnaflow under it. What is a good programmer to run for a daily use truck.

Get a tune, either mail order or dyno if you can find one near you. Hand helds dont really give too much, maybe a few hp at wot. Good for checking codes + changing wheel sizes but if you want gains across the board get a tune.

I have a Hypertech up for grabs, if you really want one pm me.

crane is the only handheld unit I would buy personally... HPP3 is ok, but crane lets you adjust fuel, spark, and some other little things

Nice truck! There is ALOT of information on this site about handheld programmers and custom tunes. Generally, a custom tune (Nelson Performance, Wait4Me, etc.) is better than a handheld programmer (Hypertech, Superchips, Predator, etc.). It all depends on what you want. A custom tune can be tuned specifically for your truck based on your preferences. Just click on the "search" button on the top of the page and type in something.

I would rather a programmer than a tune. I know the tunes give out more power, but I would like something I can adjust to how I am using my truck, whether its towing/hauling or hauling ***.

Well then get a HPT tuner software. That way you can get the best of both worlds, a custom tune that you can change when you want.

I use a Hypertech and it works good. Not the power of a custom tune, but not really planning on wringing every HP I can out of a 4800lb vehicle, especially at the cost of a new transmission. I dropped almost a half of a second off of my ET. I've also used and tried the Crane/Vinci, and it works good too. You couldn't adjust your shift points individually, although it does extend the shift points for a nice improvement. I never did test that one at the track, so I don't know exactly how much ET reduction it offers, but it "felt good" on the street. Most of the ET difference between a mail order tune and a handheld comes from the Torque Management being removed. I've been around here a long time and I've seen many many many many 14 and 15 second trucks on their 2nd, 3rd, or 4th transmission. I can only attribute this to the T/M removal, as I run my truck hard everyday, have made many passes at the track, and even sprayed about 5 or so bottles thru it....and I'm still on my factory transmission at 85k miles.....oh, and I still have all of the T/M in mine also. I think handhelds work good until you get deep into the mods, then you outgrow 'em. Get a used Hypertech, you can always re-sell it. A mail order tune has no resale value. My 2 cents.
