FI on stock motors&drivetrain=problems ... do yourself a favor and be patient.... do all the little things first, i learned the hard way on a previous vehicle

I am making 400 rwhp and 400 rwtq with basically stock truck. I had to use 42# injectors, colder plugs and a boost a pump. Feels really good up top. Have never ran in the 1/4 but my 0-60 is about 7 seconds if that give you an idea. With out a stall you are not going to see the acceleration you want.

Generally gains on stock motors are advertised from 50-65% increase in PEAK flywheel hp. So you are getting some of the story. However, most will usually agree there is no better power/$ mod out there and they really do wake these trucks up..

nemmarick makes a good point. It's all really luck of the draw running the various supercharger kits offered. Engine wise, the ls series handles a little boost (5-8psi) fairly well and fairly safely, stock bearings, pistons, rods etc. will take it usually with proper tuning for quite some time! do a search on parish if you want some boosting inspiration. The stock tranny however is another story. My little 4.8 in front of the 60e with shift tuning lasted about a week with the stock centrifugal 5-7psi kit from vortech with only 50k under its belt.

My advice:
Get a built tranny, ensure you have a good cooler and gauge, or swap to an 80e or t56. Go for a 3000-ish stall converter (which makes a lot of extra heat in itself, another reason for the oversize cooler) if you stay automatic. Like my centrifugal blower they don't make a whole lot of boost down low like the roots/screw type and won't leave the line as hard as you'd probably like, but you will make lots of boost up high! For the rearend, If you have a stock g80, its somewhat of a time grenade, if you have an open dif, forget about getting traction, and watch those spider gears go. I'd personally reccommend a detroit truetrac from mine and many others.

Anyways hope i didn't damped your FI spirits, you can do as much or little as you'd like, but hoping to save you some time and dissapointment, because i'm sure you won't be dissapointed with boosting, only in time you will want to go higher, its an addiction!
