Which way/how much did you have to move the lower air box to get things together? Could we get a picture by any chance?

I had some problems getting the piping to all line up BUT, then I went and read the instructions and it literally took just 10-15 minutes to put it on. Some of the fits are kinda tight but, it all lined up.

I did heat the piece that goes over the TB to allow it to fit over the TB easier. I used a heat gun. If you try this be VERY careful not to get the plastic too hot.

If you think a piece is just not right I would contact UPD and see about getting a replacement piece.

Buddy.....you are speaking from my heart!! Looking at your sig, you tried to istall it ton your 2002 Sub...is this a Z71?? with the High capacity air cleaner? It seems to me there are differences on the 02s.
I just 5 minutes ago gave up on installing mine......after trying for about 45 minutes. There is no way that tube fits over my throttle body with the supplied grommet........ABSOLUTELY NO WAY!!! The other thing I noticed (as you are mentioning) is that I probably would have to detach the air box base from the truck since the tube interfers with the radiator hose. Seems the outlet of the lid when mounted to the airbox is too low and the tube would never clear the radiator hose AND mount to the throttle body. Besides, I can't get the tube to mount to the throttle body with the supplied grommet. I absolutely followed the instruction to a tee and I have several vehicles and all have airlid and exhaust mods, so this is not the first time I am doing this kind of stuff. I alway use a teflon base grease that is very slick, helps to provide a perfect seal and does not attac the rubber. There is no reson this piece needs or should have this tight of a fit. NO reason. I put the truck back to stock and the stock pieces fit niece, easy and snug on all parts. No reason to have to use brutal force to get this stuff to fit. I just called UPD and they were very nice....a tech is supposed to call me back within an hour or so......let's see....
quote:
Originally posted by NataSS Inc:

But one thing that got me was the promise of "just a screwdriver and 10 minutes of your time" to install. HA! 10 minutes my ***!! 45 minutes later and a few cuts it was finally done. Some of those fittings and were so tight it took everything I had with the help of my father in law to get them together. The TB was the worst. BUT the darn lower air box is now unattached from its factory mounting positions. Is the lower air box supposed to be unattached once the UPD goes in? Its almost like the piping that goes from the TB to the MAF fittings is to short. The guy from UPD, Will's his name, just called me right when promised. We went through the install sequence and I explained my problems. He was very puzzled by my problems. Obviously there are a lot UPDs out there and not many complaints...except us few here in two separate posts on this board. Dunno what to do now. I would like to mount the UPD, but I am afraid I break it trying to mount it..must be just me having this difficulty. I also don't want to leave the air box detached from the body.
quote:
Originally posted by Alex D:

Mine and several of my friends went right on..No problems at all..The power is damn worth it too! Some of us have even raced on the installation..I did my first install in like 8 minutes and can do it in four minutes now..Hell, its only four screws and three hose clamps..The key is lubbing up the TB clamp real well, especially on the leading edge..I would make sure you keep all the parts real warm before you do the instal in this cold *** weather..Just my O2..

Since you mention it.. It sure is real strange from a scientific point of view , how tons and tons of people have installed the UPD and two or three have trouble..One even says ABSOLUTLEY won`t fit.. Come to think of it,, I have seen that with almost every prodcut ever made..I still don``t understand how some people hate the Hpp3!! Just makes no sense .. At least we have this great forum to help each other.. out..

The lower air box is about 2 inches shy of being where it is supposed to. My wife drove it today without any problems but she noticed a faint whistle and she also noticed the oil pressure moving around a bit more (probably the first time she ever noticed the gauge). But the foam on the air box that seals to the fender is off about 2 inches as well.

The suburban is an LT with the 5.3 if I am not mistaken. This was the first time I was "allowed" to get under the hood. I can build a 420RWHP SS but god forbid if I touch the suburban. Give them an inch and they take a freakin mile

Damn, 2"'s outta wack. That sounds like you gotta bad piece. You better get in touch with UPD and see what they will do for you. From everything I've seen they will take care of you.

Will from UPD told me that I may have to losen the airbox to install the kit (instructions do not say anything about that?!?), but then everything is supposed to snug down in place again. I still can't see how this kit can fit my application. The tube is interfering with the radiator hose big time when the lid is in place and the lower airbox is bolted down. This just doesn't make any sense. ARE WE FEW GUYS HERE THE ONLY ONES WITH THIS UPD INSTALL PROBLEM??? THERE'S GOTTA BE MORE OF THIS. ANYONE THAT SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLED THEIRS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM??????
quote:
Originally posted by NataSS Inc:

Alex and NataSS Inc - What size is the radiator core in your 'Burbs? Is it the 34" core radiator?

I'm going to take a look at mine tomorrow sometime to get a better idea of the way things are routed. It's been a while since I installed mine. I have the smaller radiator still so that may be your problem.

Any guys with the big radiator have problems with installing the UPD?

John

Dunno....I have a 2002 Z71 burb....all Z71s have the towing package (HD cooling, external tranny cooler, etc.)...would that make any difference??
quote:
Originally posted by XLR8NSS:

I have no idea what size my core is. Like I said this was the first time I was allowed to get under the hood.
