Default Is it possible?

My father has been looking at this truck that is for sale it is a 2004 GMC 2500hd 4 door 4WD with a 6.0L and 4L80E... The truck is in perfect condition inside and out the only down sides are it has a 6.0L and it has 198000 miles...well is it possible to get good gas millage out of this truck? he is willing to do any thing from long tube headers, no cats, tune, different gears,CAI... You get the picture...Is there any proven methods of getting better gas millage out of this truck?

I wouldn't expect any more than 11 mpg if you do a good mix of city and highway. I agree with 16 max on the highway.

Its a heavy truck with a big engine, you arent going to get *good* mileage, ever. If you want good mileage buy a car or a small truck.

I think you are expecting to much out of a truck this size. 15 to 17 will be max highway driving. You will probably get around 12mpg all around if you are lucky. Those trucks were not made for mileage they are made to work.

Not unless it has a Duramax.

If all he's looking for is better gas mileage (which really isn't going to happen), why not just take that money, and put it towards fuel? Spending an assload of money to get marginally better fuel economy is just pointless.
