porting and polishing throttlebody?
#12
It takes te lip that the blade sits on out and cuts the angle down a little. It does increse it by about 4 to 6 mm. It smoothe aout the flow a little. I did notice a little better respose out of it, but I don't realy think it is worth a measureable amout on the dyno. My opinion, if you were gonna pay someone $100 bucks or more to do it, it better come with the T/B. I paid much less than that for both. But the guy that did mine doen't want to make a bussiness out of doing it. Yet...
Greg
EDIT, it also takes the lip that the tube connects to down to create a smoother transition from the intake tube to the T/B.

I did mine myself. I ported it with a dremel, then sanded it to make it semi smooth. I then took a small polishing wheel and a drill and polished it out. It looks damn good, i have yet to do the tb grind, i have ti find the thread about how to do it, ill gt back to ya on that, its still raining here so i cant test drive it.

My used truck came with a ported TB which was one less thing I have to do. I'll try to get some pics.

If I were to buy an aftermarket throttlebody, such as the BBK, is it ported, and is it be modified so it opens up closer to 90 degrees as well? Is that essentially what you are paying for when you buy the BBK?

It is not just a ported stock unit. It is also bigger right outta the box so no porting is necessary. I think you would have to check to see if it opens 90 degrees since everyone seems to have different amounts of throttle travel(production tolerances?). I have no personal experience with the BBK but, have never heard anything good about it. It seems to have multiple problems. A search in the External Engine section would probably turn up some info.
A ported stock TB is plenty, an aftermarket unit is a waste of money IMO. Use the money you save towards a pulley or cam.

I used a dremel for mine. I ground out all the large imperfections and that little "ridge" in there, then took several different grits of sandpaper and hand polished it to a nice smooth finish. Cant say that it made more power, but I liked doing the work.
