Default Is ported heads necessary?

I have a 2004 silverado 5.3 LM7, i have a cam from tsp and was going to turbo the truck, does any one have any numbers on how much of an impact ported heads will make or if it is even worth it or necessary to get them ported? I have a trunion kit with 243 heads, thanks

Sloppy mechanics did a youtube video on that, you can likely find it pretty easy.

In short, it's never a must do. It's only if you want to do it. Yes you can make a little more power because more flow is going to make more power.

If you goal is to just fry tires with 500hp, which is a cake walk with a cam/turbo setup then I wouldn't even put up a fuss about doing ported heads.

Tony Mamo says to never ever, port a stock LS head. I still have the email from him.

I am curious why he would say that?

The more "Force" you use, the less difference everything on the intake side matters, and the more everything on the exhaust side matters. Just simple physics... The Force overcomes restriction on the int side but there's no practical way to Force MORE into a cyl unless the spent stuff gets OUT first.

Can't speak to what Tony says though. Doesn't make sense to me. But he's somebody whose opinion to take seriously for sure. OTOH given that a whole group of people have CNC programs that produce BIG power improvements when run on stock castings, I'm betting that there's more to whatever he ACTUALLY said, than what was paraphrased up there.
