Default Plans on modding

Hello everyone, I've beemn creeping on this forum for so long so I decide to register lol

But anyways, I have an 06 extended cab vortec max with 2 wheel drive. I currently have an exhaust and intake. I'm lost on trying to figure out what I should do next. Tune? But I don't want to have to retune after future mods. I would like to end up with a front mount turbo. Thats my goal. Any opinions on the route I should take to get there? As for budget I'm lookimg for the less expensive mods (Christmas time = smaller budget) Thanks for any replies!

Get a tune from a sponsor. Retunes are free and simple from lots of tuners. One of the top bang for your buck mods.

Welcome to PT.net!

Well if your planning a turbo in the future. You should look @ either going with fully built 4L60/65e (very expensive) or do a 4L80e swap (cheaper and will handle lots of power even with a stock unit).

Also get a tune from Zippy he will take care of you and leaves the PCM unlocked so you tuned can be emailed if you have the HP Tuner suite, no PCM mailing back and forth. Also your updates/revisions are free.

Those two will be a start for ya.

I was going to do the 4l80 when that one takes a dump. How much does the sponsors normally charge for a tune?

Anywhere from 275-375ish... Some with a refundable core charge...

Thanks buddy, I pm'd Zippy. I'm looking forward to progress! I would like to run in the 8's in the 1/8th. That's my local track length.

Definitely get a LIVE tune from one of the sponsors if you can. Cheapest way to get it done. I know Justin (blackbear) charges $250 and will retune for free as long as you don't add power adders. Once you add power adders I believe he tunes on an hourly rate.

If youre going to go turbo, go ahead and beef up the rear end.

As far as transmissions go, if you are going to want to push anything more than 500rwhp, look into a 4l80e. The cost to swap is around the same price as a fully built 60e, but will hold way more power.

He is a great guy and easy to deal with, he will take care of ya!

With my 04 Sierra Extended Cab VHO with no other mods other then a tune, 2600 stall and 4.30 gears ran a 9.09 in the 1/8. It had stock exhaust, intake, factory 20's, no weight reduction, and a factory clutch fan (yours has a e-fan)... stock!

Running in the 8's will be a breeze!

No it has a few more mods lol, they are addicting. It was suppose to be the slow daily.... so much for that!

His truck has a 14 bolt differential, much stouter then the factory 10 bolt. Also the factory G80 is larger and stronger, still a weak point but not like the 10 bolt's G80.

I say, wait till it blows up... lol

My 10 bolts G80 went the first donuts I did, bone stock! Granted it had 86k on it.

Unless you plan on launching on slicks/drag radials your factory axles will be fine, even then its debatable and kinda a case by case thing.
