Default performance help!!

I have a 1989 GMC SIERRA 5.0L V8 regular cab short box. I just recently started driving it and was thinking about making it faster, a lot faster if possible.
I was just wondering if anyone knows what performance parts would be best.

Any opinions or thoughts would be appreciated.

If you are thinking of going a lot faster then I would say start off with an LS1 based motor. You could possibly make your 5.0 fast but how old is the motor? Was the truck run hard? Your gonna have to give us a lil more info like:gears? tranny? plans? money situation? There are a lot of things to factor first.

Magnaflow replacement muffler, homemade cold air intake, 100 wet shot and your all set.

my old truck was a 94 K1500 RCSS with the 5.0L. those engines are rediculously underpowered. its not worth the trouble to make it fast. yank the engine and drop in an LS1 or 6.0L, or even a crate motor like the GMPP 572. money allowing of course.

Ive always said you can make anything fast as long as you have the cash, but like the other guys said. You be better off going with one of the LSX motors if your looking to go fast. Making your 305 fast wouldnt be bad though if your willing to put the time and cash into it.

First of all...you can make the 5.0L faster than what it is now so. Clarity on what you are wanting does help. Now, if I was you this would be my list of performance items....by the way I have a 1990 C1500 with a 5.7L when I got it so this is what worked best for me.
1)Headers
2)Aftermarket cat-back system with hi flow cat or no cat
3)Open K&N element
4)Gears-3.73s from your 3.08s
Now that you have a foundation built
5)Get your heads on a 350 block and build a 350 or 383.
6)Vortec heads or performance heads
7)Camshaft...depends on 350 or 383
8)If you keep the TBI...upgrade it with injectors or the Holley unit
9)Custom chip or burn your own chips
10)If you need more.....MPFI
11)If you still need more.....Supercharger

Some other notes...the Jacob's ignition system is top notch and helped my truck tremedously.

So, can you make a 305 fast.....yes but there is not replacement for displacement. And a guy on thirdgen.org is making 500hp with a 305 Supercharged.
