The perfect 6.0 build...
#1
OK guys...I am about to buy a 4.8 chevy and do a 6.0 swap on it, but I am new to Chevy's and need some help. If you had unlimited resources, what would be your perfect 6.0 build...from the motor, headers, possible boost, heads, cam, tune, tranny, stall, rear gears, etc.....I'm planning to use what I learn from this thread to figure out how to do my own build...I appreciate the help guys!!
How would you build it??

I'm pretty sure dropping a 4" stroke crank in a 6.0L will get you a 408. I'm not as sure if there is any machining require on the block for clearance? My plan is to build a forged 408 iron block for a turbo, probably 9 - 9.5:1 cr, reverse split cam, stock or maybe ported 6.0L heads.

headers go for pacesetter tune if you want go to efi live and do your own tuning, forced induction it would depend on what you want to do get max hp or around 600-700 is good. You got a lot of things you can do oh and tranny to go with a good one like a 4l80e and save the headaches for later.

The cheapest way to build the motor would be an lq4 iron block. The forged internals are up to you, I think they are a good idea around 550-600 hp. If that is all that you want to make, new rod bolts should be the only upgrade in the lower end. If you wanted to save some money, you could forget the 408 idea and use the 6.0L with its stock parts. A cam swap to something turbo-friendly would be a good idea (like a 230/218 on a 114 or 115 lsa). If you search through some threads you can get ideas of what is possible with each set-up. The stuff I know is limited as I just started researching turbos and have never had a truck with one before. I like the front mount turbos that members here have put together, they make tons of power too.

Small update, I think the 4" crank with a 4" bore would make a 402 not a 408. Not much difference but I think you need to bore the 6.0L .030 over to get the 408. I don't think there would be a reason to bore the 6.0L unless it needed to be cleaned up. Matt, what kind of power do you want to make?
