Alright guys, i called around today to get some info about my exhaust and got 2 different opinions. A post i saw here earlier inspired me to do so. I wanted to know if a y-pipe or if a true dual setup would be better for performance. Previous to this, i had been told that the duals is overkill and the y-pipe would be better but i have also heard that the duals does more for your top end power and the y-pipe would do more for your low end power. I called both G-force performance over here in pearland and Deer Park Muffler to ask their opinions....
G-force said the pacesetter LT's are a nice set of headers and that the 2.5" duals would perform much better than the pacesetter 3" y-pipe. They said they have dyno proven more gains with a dual setup than with the y-pipe setup and he would suggest to run duals.
I then called deer park muffler and they said the pacesetter LT's are junk and i should go with shorties. He went on to tell me that they have had 3 or 4 trucks come in to have the LT's installed and have all come back to get their stock stuff put back on because the pacesetters are crap. This is the first time i have ever heard that shorties are better than LT's and that pacesetters are crap. lol Ive always been told that they are a nice set of headers and are the best bang for the buck! Then he continues to talk to me like im 5 years old and starts to explain that if i get rid of my cats, i will need to do something about the o2 sensors and blah blah blah. He asked what mufflers i would be running and i told him hooker aerochambers. He asked why i would want to use a crappy muffler like that cause it sounds like a tin can and that i should get a flowmaster or something because it is the best muffler and would sound so much deeper and better. Now, i have used this shop many times before and they have always been pretty cool and they do excellent work but im starting to change my mind about them after this last conversation. If i let him do my setup with what he had suggested, i would end up with shorty headers, stock y pipe with the cats cut off and a 2.5 dual setup to 2 chamber flows and turn downs.
What do yall think about this?
Has anyone here had problems with their pacesetter LT's? From what i understand, everyone running them is happy with them.
Do yall think 2.5" duals would be better than the 3" y-pipe?
What muffler would sound best for either setup? I know yall are partial to the aerochambers but are there any other onesyall like? I want something mean and loud and also perform well.
Let me know guys. Thanks!!

I have read that unless you are going F/I, then go dual ... if you are not going F/I then do the Y-pipe.... that's just what I've heard... there are plenty of trucks here that are damn fast with the y pipe...
plus with your heavy truck, I dont think the dual set-up will help alot on the lowend....
and I think there are plenty of people here that has proven that the L/T's have better gains over shorties... (by the way, I have shorties!!)

See, i also heard that the same thing you did about the duals being better for F/I and the y-pipe being better for N/A. But yes, you are right about alot of trucks running damn good with the y-pipe setup. I know the y-pipe would be much easier since it all just slip fits together and i would only need the 1 muffler so thats why i was going to do that. The midpipe is the only thing i have left to buy so i figured id find out for sure before i make my final decision. Ans like you said, with my truck being heavy, i could use the low end power much more than i could the high end power. Your truck sounds good with the shorties! I just know that there is a little more power to be made from running LT's instead of shorties but both are significantly better than stock. I just couldnt believe he would suggest what he did. To sell my LT's for shorties, i would be going backwards. And flowmasters dont flow for anything. I just couldnt believe what he was suggesting. lol Maybe hes new or something... who knows.
F/I mean forced induction and N/A means naturally aspirated.

The setup you have now looks pretty good to me, I'd keep it. LT's and a Bullet flow well. About getting shorty-headers, I think that would be a step backward. With your current mods, I think you would'nt notice any difference by going to a dual exhaust.

Ok, ill probably just stick with going with the 3" y-pipe then. I want to find one that does not have the crimp on the bottom half. If i do that, i know it wont be overkill and i will only need to buy the 1 muffler so i will save a little money there too. Ill eventually be running a magnacharger but it will take a little more time to save so i can always swap to duals then if i need more flow when the time comes.
BTW, the exhaust isnt all installed yet. The only thing installed right now is the bullet but i have the LT's in the garage and i had the y-pipe bought but the guy backed out so i didnt end up getting it. I was planning to have it all installed by now but its taking a little longer than i had planned but since i hadnt got the midpipe yet, i wanted to ask because that is the final thing i need and i wanted to make sure i made the right choice.
Thanks for the help everyone!!

From my expirence- Shorties dont do much more then stock manifolds if anything, Flowmasters are way to restrictive ( Regardless of the name they dont flow) Aerochambers sound great ( I have them and love the sound) If you are doing FI then due dual 2.5 or 3in if you are pushing alot of boost or have a bigger motor. For NA applications I would lean twards the 3in ypipe. Just my .02
