A.P.E 370 c.i. potential
Hey guys! I'm graduating in a couple of weeks from High School, and my parents are opening up a checking account for me this weekend, with a little over 15k in it . I'm looking at finally stepping up to the plate with a new engine. I first have to take care of about a grand and a half worth the body work on the side of my truck though, which has been holding me up. I would love to have a 408 with a large amount of juice, but that might be a little out of my price range at the time. The A.P.E. 370 looks like a nice solid motor for the money. Would this set-up with a big cam and stg 2 heads run in the low 12's n/a, with a 3600 converter in a RCSB? Would low 11's be capable with a 300 shot? I figure that with what I would save going the 370 route instead of the 408, I could use toward a 80E or built 60E, and suspension work. I'll keep my eyes out for a used 408 in the 6,000 price range though, that extra 40 cubes would be very nice. What do you experts think? Thanks a ton.

If it matters I'm from the Bay Area in California, Belmont to be specific. I have a 4.8 which with a turbo can be fast, but there's obviously a lot more potential with a engine with 70+ more cubes (comparing a 294 to a 370). I rather have a n/a motor that runs low 12's, than a boosted motor that runs low 12's, when it cost just about the same price for either application. A 300 shot is not that harsh at all, on a BUILT motor.

The simple thing would be putting a Radix on my 4.8. But, I'm going for a little more freaky of a set up than a Radix'd 4.8. I don't think I'd be content with that, you know what I mean, actually I know I wouldn't.

I think there is a LOT of potential for a good running, N/A motor in a RCSB truck. My stock LS1 with a TR224 cam trapped 101mph with a slipping tranny. Once the '80 is in and the Yank 3200HD (thanks TByrne!) I hope to pick up a few more mph.
I'm not up on all the stroker/big cube packages out there, but I can't see how a 370 w/ a 4L80 and a 3600 stall would be a bad combo at all!

Be carefull spending your money like this! I know two kids who came home from the military to bank accounts with 15-20K each - and they were dead a** BROKE within a few months. It's very easy to get carried away...
I'm thinking the 370 would get you to mid to high 12's with a good amount of tuning and track setup.

I just wanted to know because its seems like nobody from this site lives close to me. I live in south city which is only like 15 mins from belmont. Do you ever go to infineon to run your truck? My buddy has an 03 SS and we race on Wed nights. Too many fords are their, we need to bring some GM trucks. Back to the topic, if you want more cubes just get a 6.0. There is one for sale for like 600.00 in the classified section. Probably gone by now though. I'm also unsure about smog because it is a bitch in the bay area. A radical motor may give you some serious trouble especailly with a big cam. I would seriously think about the route you are going.
