Default opinions on new truck

what would be the difference between a 4.8 with intake headers exhaust mail-order tune and ignition upgrade and a 5.3 with the same mods

about what would each have hp and 1/4 mile times and is the 5.3 goin to feel that much stronger on the street everyday

oh and both will have 410lsd gears and servos and shift kit

cuz i found a 00 silvy with a 4.8 for 10k and although i was wantin a 5.3 im thinkin a 4.8 might be enough cuz for me power=trouble

The 5.3 will make more power down low but they will be very close in the upper rpms. I'd say there would be a few tenths difference mainly because the 5.3 is gonna holeshot the 4.8. They may level off some past the 1/8th but the 5.3 just has to much grunt down low for the 4.8 mod for mod.

10K sounds a little high to me but if that's what you want then it might be worth it to you.

get a high-mileaged 4.8 for cheap and swap in a 6.0 and 4L80-E. Bad street/strip machine and for not too much dough.

That's what I'd do. Even if you get the 5.3 your going to want to do the 6.0 swap down the road. I wouldn't get a 4.8 tho unless I was sure I was going to do the swap. If you plan on just modding it, get the 5.3, the HP isn't much higher but the torque is. It feels a lot stronger than a 4.8, and the 6.0 feels that much better than the 5.3.
