Default opinions on buying a converter..

I am thinking about ordering a converter today and i wont to know what you guys suggest as far as stall and driveability. I do a lot of interstate driving and i dont want to misserable.. The stall I am looking at is the TCI SF3000.. I have heard nothing but good things about it so i know im going with that one if i do.. My 4.10's should be here next monday so no more 3.42's. Some of the people around here are telling me that a 3000 stall will suck on the interstate.. i usually run about 75-80 and i dont want it constantly searching for OD or 3rd.. Bottom line let me know what you think and if i should order it.. i want to go faster

I cant see where a stall will affect youre interstate driving the 4.10s will alot of members here run the Yank TT 3000 seems to be the most popular.

I have the SSF 3500 and it is the same as a stock coverter on the highway due to the lock up. It is awesome when you downshift and get on it with the high shift extension.

I have that exact same stall it doesnt effect highway driving at all, during city driving youll be cruising around at the same 2000 rpms that you are when you are going 75. Its more fun to drive and begs for you to jump on the accelerator.

do NOT put 4.10 gears in with a 3000 stall. you will have no traction when trying to accelerate. you will defeat the purpose of the stall and gears. you won't be able to enjoy them because you will spin too much. the most gears i would do with a 3000 stall is 3.73.

the gears will affect you more on the interestate than the stall will

you should of done the stall 1st, then swap out the gears if you think you needed to. sounds like it is too late for that. sounds like you ordered the gears already

do it. 4.10's and a stall is a popular combo that will work. you might have to get some sticky tires soon though.

Tires arent are problem.. and im not making that much power.. i mean 270 + my tune.. And as long as it doesnt affect my interstate driving that much i dont care. i dont drive around the city that much..

Also is it neccessary to buy a shift kit if i go with a stall.. i already have a tranny cooler..

I say go with a 3000 stall or even a 3200. You will get much better traction with that locker or posi you plan on getting(guessing from sig). I wouldn't do the shift kit until you see how these mods go first. Then slap on some cal-tracs and a 125 shot and you'll be rocking for a good time.

Why doesn't anybody else understand this? I knocked a half second off my ET with just the converter, and I don't think that more gear (4.10's) would have helped. If anything, I think it would have made it even more difficult to 60 foot. I'd try one first (the converter) and then see if you think you still need the gears, or vice versa. Unless you plan on running drag radials or ET streets all of the time. You'll be surprised at how much different it is driving the truck with a good 3000 converter. You can just mash it from a dead stop and light the tires up. You need to re-learn how to drive the truck. Good luck.
