Default oil pressure problem

Driving to work this morning, I realized that my oil pressure gauge is pegged at 80 psi. ?? WTF does that mean? I know that I have to change my oil, I am running Royal Purple 0-20 with about 3k miles on it.

Stock oil pump, is my filter plugged? No strange engine noises, nothing like that. I know the stock gauge is not the most accurate, is there a way I can hook up an aftermarket gauge to the stock sending unit, and where is the stock oil pressure sending unit? Any help is appreciatedd guys.

I'm going to guess that the gauge is bad, just from all of the cluster failures that I've seen and heard about. I believe that the factory sender is at the back of the intake, but there may be a test port down by the oil filter that you can hook a manual gauge to, not 100% sure. I'm sure that someone will chime in who knows exactly where to hook up the manual gauge...

Sweet. After some searching, I think its going to be the sending unit. Worst case, its the least expensive out of all the options. I would if someone has the answer as to how to wire in a manual gauge, probably better off with one anyway. Not really looking forward to dropping the intake, any hints on disconnecting the fuel lines without the use of the special multi-million dollar GM fuel line tool?

My 2005 truck did the same thing but it was with the oil presure speedo and volt gauge that went pegged. Put a new gauge cluster in it and it fixed my problem.

No hints, but I believe that the tool is actually very cheap, and you might even be able to get it at AutoZone....

I'm not sure exactly which tool it is on this page, but the single tools are anywhere from $7 to $12... http://www.thetoolwarehouse.net/nsea...isconnect+tool

Your search turned up results that point to the sending unit on the block? I'd figure that you'd find pages of instrument cluster failures
