Default Oil pans

Not really performance (sorry about that) but it's going on a performance engine.

When the old one exploded it put a dent in the tube that is molded into pan for the filter.

Guy I bought the engine from gave me another oil pan free, but it drains to the side and has these fittings on that 90 (picture included)

What is that fitting? My old pan is a rear drain without that little feature and it threw me for a curve

I believe it is a built in pressure relief. Some people take it out and plug it to help increase oil pressure.

Yeah, that's a gen 4 oil pan, they have that relief for the VVT/DoD systems. You can just remove it and plug the oil so it has a more normal oil pressure readings like a gen 3 motor.

Alright so gen 4 pans are exactly the same as gen 3 except for that little relief fitting?

Mostly, the drain spot is different and they did away with the oil level sensor too.

Alright so I'm gonna get a code for not having that sensor correct?

No codes but may have the dash say low oil level and the chime going off.

The pans are slightly different. The gen3 is slightly deeper at about 8.5 inches at the front with a rear drain bolt. The gen4 is roughly 8 inches deep at the back with a passenger side drain plug.
