Default oil control issue

Do the stock 317s rocker arm intake bolts stick out into the intake runner? I'm having some odd oil control issues on and engine with about a thousand miles on it.

I'll post more later. Its a long story.

Some might.

Not too much of a hassle to pull em out one at a time and put a dab of thread sealer on em. There's only 8. Shouldn't take more than 15 or 20 minutes if you're slow like me, which I'm sure you're much faster. (everybody is)

They usually do if the heads have been ported any.

Stock 317’s do not have rocker bolts that pass into the intake port.

Thread sealer is not the ideal sealer, it's intended for pipe threads, not bolt threads. Most pipe thread sealers are intended to remain flowable. When you use pipe thread sealer on bolts, it's pure luck when it remains and permanently seals. Something like Permatex #2 is more suitable for this.

heres more to the story, now that I'm at a computer and can type faster....

its a 2005-6 GM 6.0 block .030 out, BTR Stage 4 truck cam and supporting mods, smith trunion upgrade. everything else is stock. during the first 2 weeks of driving it was doing very well, I had to change the rear main seal but other than that it was going well changed the oil at 50, 100, 150, 300, 500, 750 and i think around 1000 miles(my son was playing in my truck and reset my trip meter). One day running around doing stuff I started it and there was a big plume of smoke but that was about it until the next day, I started it and it plumed again but now it was smoking at idle and ever since then its been smoking every time start it and I'm idling. At WOT i'm not getting any smoke trail that I can see. As long as I'm off idle under load i cant see any smoke. First thought was PCV valve in my valve cover, it had 214000 miles, changed it with a new one i had in the garage for my 09 G8 GT(it has the 6.0 too). Still smoking. now this made me to believe that my valve seals werent right or installed wrong, got some new Fel pro seals and installed them. Still smoking. Pull the intake off and drained probably a full cup of oil out of it. then it was fine for a few hours, got it out and beat the snot out of the engine thinking the rings are seating(it still makes great power, I can get tire spin in the first 4 gears, its a T56 swap), that was yesterday and today on the way to work, making a few stops, it makes a smoke cloud that a diesel would be proud of, but again, running down the road once i get some RPMs on it, no smoke....I'm pulling my hair out here, my gut tells me its maybe the valve guides just because of the WOT situation. I pulled every spark plug in every cylinder and they are black as night, lots of carbon build up.

I'm torn between piston rings and valve guides......what do you guys think?

Catch can and or figure your PCV issue out. The oil in the intake manifold came from one place and it's not the rocker bolts in the heads. Otherwise you have some massive blowby which is a total possibility.

I'm not gonna ignore the possibility of massive amounts of blowby but I would think if the rings are that jacked up it would smoke all the time and probably smoke a ton at WOT. I'm looking for a catch can today but probably wont be able to get one till this weekend.

I highlighted the issue for you, its a PCV issue, sounds like pulling too much vacuum on the crankcase.
