I really don't think it makes that much difference what oil you run. But I sleep better at night knowing I'm running a good oil. I run Redline 10W30. I like Redline because it has alot of moly (molybdenum) in it, more than Amsoil or any other brand. Moly is expensive to add to oil, so most brands you buy at the auto parts store have little or no moly.

If you want some in-depth reading about oil, check out Bobistheoilguy.com. It's a forum for oil related topics.

Go up to the top of the forum list and click on Internal Engine in the power developement section. Do a search on engine oil and you will find all of the information you want, and then some. There is a guy that goes by PATMAN who knows more about oil then Exxon! I've read some of his posts and he is definately the afficianado on synthetic oil. I think he prefers the Castrol sythetic, but only if it is made in Germany (I know, I know, very ****, but very knowledgeable). I personally use Penzoil 5w-30 right now and will probrobally switch to Mobil 1 when I put my new motor in.

i always thought as long as you change your oil on a regular basis, there is no need to purchase super expensive stuff. it may reduce some friction and increase the performance a tiny bit, but nothing you could really notice.

i run 5W-30 (which ever name brand is on sale, usually for a $1/quart), and change it when ever my message center tells me to which is usually:

3800 miles in winter

5200 miles in summer

Your talking about a 2 stage oil filter....I have been trying to find them to fit 99-02 Chevy trucks with no luck, can you give me a name or a web address? Most big rigs use 2 stae oil filters, cause the way they make it out to be is that with the good syn(royal purple, redline, amsoil) they never break down just get dirty and by chenging the filter can run the oil for 10,000 miles...not that i would ever do that but probably for at least 6,000 before an oil change...Thanks.
