Default no fuel filter fuel systems in new trucks

so how is the system filtered besides the pick up filter on the pump is this the only form of filtering the new fuel systems? some of the new trucks do have them i guess like the 2500's and such but the 1500's 4.8 and 5.3 have no serviceable filter.

According to the Helms factory GM service manuals for the 2004 Silverado 5.3, there is a filter in the tank within the unit that holds the pump, sending unit, etc. The picture doesn't show an exploded view, but it shows the entire fuel pump/sending unit module with letters or numbers, a description of each, and arrows pointing to the components that make up the module. The item that Helms lists as the filter looks to be fairly large in diameter (maybe 3 inches plus) but its impossible to tell how long it is from their illustration.

The 99'-03' trucks have inline fuel filters. Not too sure about the 04's.
I know for sure that the 05' and up trucks have an in-tank fuel filter. I'll change it at about 60,000K or when I put my drop on.

Yes, 2004 year modles was when GM converted into the filter in the tank. They are considered unservicable, wonder why?

Apparently it was an environmental issue. They will eventually clog up just like an external filter. But they are somewhat larger.

Toyota/Lexus have been using "lifetime" filters for a long time now with no major issues. Even when they were external/in-line they were considered lifetime, and we never had problems unless someone picked up contaminated fuel or something like that.
