Default no 6.0,, gonna re ring

alright guys,, do to insufficent funds, im just gonna re ring this bastard. where can i get a good set of rings? the cylinder walls looked good with a good cross hatch design on the cylinder walls. also while im at it, im gonna throw a cam in too. how is this cam setup? Im not wanting anything too major that i need lots of tuning, and i pull a heavy trailer alot to work. so i need my low end.
So how bout the gen. 3 hotcam kit? summit number
" nal-12480033 " it comes with new ls6 valve springs. the cam specs are 219*intake/228*exaust duration @.050" .525"intake/.525" xaust
it has a 110* centerline (lobe seperation?)
its only 409.95 for the kit.

Find a good automotive machine shop, vat the block to properly clean everthing properly, have the machine shop inspect the bores and hone the cylinders to the correct finish, that shouldn't be very expensive and will give you a fighting chance of having the rings seat properly.Ask the machine shop what rings will work best their bore finish.Have the machine clean the heads, perform a multiangle valve job and resurface them.Have the crank inspected and turned if needed.Buy premium bearings, new oil pump, new head bolts and gaskets.Take your time, keep everything as clean as possible and use plenty of assembly lube.

That sucks bro. I can appreciate your situation. In reality, your only choice is to look at this as a big performance upgrade. One way or another I would want to get something good out of this situation. Either a 6.0 or a forged 5.3.
Good luck

If you don't do it right your new rings won't seat. Then you're no better off than when you started. You are right about the used 6.0 being cheaper than building the 5.3 correctly.

You're gonna need to hone the bores to get the new rings to seat. I think Allen (farmtruc) has a pull out 4.8 left over from a 6.0 swap...you may wanna see if he'll let it go cheap. I'd just run that 4.8 until I could swing a 6.0...

Also, someone on here said the GMPP Hot Cam was a bitch to tune. I don't remember who or why but it was brought up. Aside from that, it's a good dual pattern grind but I'd think you will want a wider LSA.

wider lsa for boost. try to keep it at 114 or above. I'd go low miles 6.0L short block. It will cost the same as a piston ring install done correctly. A 6.0L will also give you about 50lb/ft more of torque just from the bigger cubes. You wanted torque...
