Newer 4.8L
#1
What Year did GM start using the 799 and 243 heads on the 4.8 and 5.3's? Im looking around at local junk yards trying to find a newer 4.8 for a 92 rcsb project im working on. Also, did they make a 4.8 with these heads but without DOD and AFM? Thanks

Here's the thing though, salvage yards know what they've got. I'd say 9 out of 10 yards with a 4.8/5.3 are gonna know if they have 243/799 heads & are gonna charge for it. You will need to try to find a private seller & play on the 4.8/5.3 thing & say they're not really what people are looking for & hope you can find a bargain that way.

Thanks man, I know that doesn't change the heads but I was wondering if the Earlier new body style trucks with 4.8's had DOD and AFM. like and 07 or 08 model or do they all have that stuff after 07? I found two, one a 2008 out of a 1500 for 550 complete and the other out of an 09 van for $550 from the same place with both around 40k. Local LKQ. For some reason they have the newer LY2's listed cheaper than the older 04-07 model LR4's with the LR4's having more miles.
Should I just get a LR4 even though there a couple hundred more than the LY2's but it will save me from having to delete the DOD and AFM?

I don't think any of the 4.8's have DOD or AFM. I know my 07 NNBS 4.8 doesn't and came with 243 heads. Maybe some of the more recent 4.8's 09+ have DOD/AFM but I want to say that the 4.8's don't have any of that stuff.

i think it was 07 and up
