Definitely grease em.

However, faced with the same problem, I tried something that made my life a WHOLE LOT EASIER. Do you still have the metal boot protectors on the spark plug end of the wire? Using pliers, carefully pull on the little heat-shieldy thing, and the plug pops right off. When puttin' them back on, press the shield and wire onto the plug until it pops again, and you will suddenly find that the plug wire is back in it's "immovable" state. Try it, I promise you'll be like, "OMG why wouldn't it come off that easy before?"

yes i do have that metal thing, so are you saying take some vise grips to it and pull on that shield and it should come off easy? pull towards the end by the engine or the end closest to you? i might just tug on the wires and trash all that crap to make things carefree and easy. with the new wires will i need that heat shield thing?

You don't have to use the heat shields but if you ahve LT's are plan on gettin them i'd keep them because the heat from LT's is extreme. When you grab the metal shields around the wires it will be easier but i'd grab as low as you can that way its closer to teh base of the plug and comes off easier. The ones in the very back are a pain in da ****....espically the driver side on with LT's lol.....

I read this thread a little too late. Just a couple days ago I installed MSD 8.5mm's and I never greased them before the install. On a scale of 1-10 how hard will it be next time?

Yeah. Don't be like me and spend an hour trying to rip melty boots off of a 4.3L and cutting your hands to shreds...

Don't ask..
