Default new to the site and need some help

I am new to this site and need some advice. I have a 5.3L 2000 silverado. It is a 4x4 extended cab short box automatic. Completely stock. I am looking to wake this thing up and get some more power out of it. It is my daily driver so I do not want to really get radical and kill my gas mileage. I was thinking air intake, headers, exhaust?? Any opinions are greatly appreciated, also what are some things I can do that don't cost $$ ie descreen MAF etc.. Thanks guys.
