Hello everyone. I have spent the last couple of days reading post on this site and decided to join. there is an insane amount of information in these forums and allot of redundant ??? I am going to add another one.

I have a 2009 chevy 1500 5.3l 6speed auto 3.73 gears. I am very happy with this truck and i dont care to change anything except its towing ability. I pull a 7500lbs camper and live in the black hills i need (want) more power while towing the camper. I just want some opinions on how to achieve this goal. I am working with a limited budget of $1500. Is this enough to make a difference in my towing ability or do i need to save more $ ? were do i start?? Any and all help is appreciated thanks.

For that kind of money taller gears will help the best. But for 1500 you should be able to put some longtubes, a tune, and gears in it. That should help with towing a bit.

Gears and a tune will help you more than anything else, period.

I checked the black bear and wheatly sites and they dont make a tune for the 09 maybe there websites are not up to date. What brand headers should I look for? I was told by the dealer that the 6 speed auto trans could not handle the 4.10 gears. What gears should i get and who should i buy from? thanks

Those 3.73 with the 6 speed should be perfect for pulling. A good tune, CAI, Long tubes, and free flow muffler will be very helpful.

I no i am going a completely different route here but I was told by a friend that I can swap a 6.2 into my truck and it would be a easy swap with no extra parts needed just a computer recalibration. Is this true? Would i need to find a certain year and model engine? were can i buy a 6.2 I have not been able to find one locally. It would cost me about $6000 to trade my truck for a similar model with a 6.2. What would it cost to do a 6.2 swap? I think just upgrading to a bigger engine would be the easiest way to get a better towing truck. thanks for any help
