If you hook your ground wire to a valve cover bolt, like the old days, you won't get a ground. The covers, and the bolts are insulated because of the coils being mounted there. That might have been what he meant.

I think either a grounding problem or BCM (Body Control Module) problem is your culpret.
If the BCM goes, you will have to have it replaced ($280-$300) and have the BCM reprogrammed by GM service department or someone that has the propper software to do this.
The vehicle will not start, remote key pad will not work, and fog lights will not shine with a bad BCM. Though I'm not sure if it will cause it not to turn the engine over.
Hope you figure it out.

No, I used the bolt hole next to the coolant sensor toward teh front of the motor. didnt work. Went directly to the block , and it worked fine

Some times the heads work as a ground and sometimes they dont
its very strange.
