Ceramics would be better for look & durability, and painted are aiight, but I'm sure they'll fade over time. Help a newbie out. Gotta make the 5.3s dig some concrete!

You might be able to use F body headers on yours. Or the Pasesetters.

Id get a used cam, but not the Z06. Maybe the Z06 springs can be had for cheap. The TB torque converter would be good, but if you want a bigger cam later, Id get a 26-2800 or even a 3000 stall. You wont be disapointed. And definatly a good tune will really wake it up. Just doing away with about 80% tm will really wake it up with nothing else.

Why not the Z06 cam? Seems like a great marriage of leftover parts to me, especially for a daily driver that doesn't need something that could make winter starting or tuning any harder than it needs to be... BTW, yes, the used Z06 springs are cheap. Just got a set on Ebay for $50. Working on a couple used Z06 cams for 100 shipped, or an aftermarket cam that has slightly better specs for $150 shipped.

Thanks alot for the help everybody, really appreciate it. I'm pretty new to these kind of trucks. I'm not really wanting to dig into the motor just yet(it will happen though)just thinkin about bolt-ons for now. I've been hearing that the hooker aerochamber's are good, is this true? What all does a custom tune involve, do you just call them and they make one and send it to you or what?

Mail order tune=call them up tell them what oyu have what you want to do they send you a pcm you switch it out with your stocker and send the stock one back to them.
I have a Nelson tune and he is a badass I would use no one else he costs more but you get what you pay for.

Get some pacesetter lt headers they are ceramic coated and can be had for cheap.

Yes the areochambers are good I heard one in person for the first time a couple of days ago and I liked it alot. They are cheap and sound pretty good.

Efans are a great mod they give you mileage and power.

Get a tune first it will make the biggest difference. Stall will make the second biggest difference get a 3K stall anything less and you will wish you went bigger I promise. Fuddle is a good brand IMO.

Personally I think a truck needs a tigter LSA to get these heavy bastards moving a little better in the low end. For $100, Id get one, but I think something in the 212/216 or 216/220+ range is a better cam. Cams are like stalls, you will always wish you went bigger, till you go to big. Im on my 1st for the 6l, but its custom for what I want, but I went through 4 or 5 on my 5.3 before I found one I really liked. Just my .02 though. A lot of people like the Z06 cam, I just think for the $$ you can get something that is better suited to a truck.

I would do most of your bolt-ons first. ie exhaust, CAI kit, e-fans, vette servo, 160* T-stat, 3.73 or 4.10 gears w/ locker, and any other bolt-on parts you can think of.
Then get your custom tune. You will need to let the person doing the tune what mods you have done so the tune will give the most performance and gains you can possibly get out of your bolt-on parts you added.
When you get a tune, go a head and opt for 100% TM removed. You won't regret it.

Id put a shift kit in too before I went 100% on the TQ management. I was running with 90-95% removed with just the vette servo, and the shift kit sitting in the living room, and fried my 3-4 clutch pack, then blew my motor on the limp home. Just my opinion, but I thing 80-85% maybe 90 would be a lot safer. I ran the hell out of mine with no problems with 80 or 85% removed, and the line pressure bumped up through tuning. I think Im at 95% now, but I have the shift kit and servo and other stuff in the tranny now.

Just curious. Why did the 3-4 clutch pack give out? Mine doesn't shift hard into OD. I just keep my foot out of it while I'm just doing my daily routines.
Did yours already have quite a few miles on it?
Either way: 85% or 100% TM removed, do the tune last.
I think most of us here would agree on that part.
