Default New Guy

I just decided to start putting some money into my truck and wasn't really sure where to start. I was thinking of getting long tube headers and putting a cut out right behind my "Y" pipe for starters but i heard you lose quit a bit of torque doing that... any suggestions?

I have an '01 silverado extended cab 5.3L V8 Vortec all stock except a generic dual exuast.

A set of long tube headers are a great mod. They are my best mod on the new truck to date. I could definantly notice a difference after them. More so than any of the other stuff I did.

I would recommend the TOG headers. After seeing pics of the ASM"s I still like my TOG's better. Be sure to get them coated, if not when you place the order through a local shop or something. I was quoted 180 to coat them from Jet Hot, and 100 from a local guy that does powder coating.

Whatever you go with as far as headers are concerned, don't bother with shorties and get the long tubes coated. You'll be sorry you didn't if you don't.

I run ASMs with a custom wye pipe fabricated with 2 1/2" mandril bends and a Flowmaster venturi wye.I also have one 3" electic cutout located just behind the wye.The balance of my system is a 70 series Flowmaster catback. The system maybe a little old school but it's quiet, makes good power and I can be anti-social with the touch of a button.
