Stroke your 4.8 to a LS1(5.7)! It will be nice and strong ironblock LS1 with the power of a 6.0!

This actually makes more sense than doing the 6.0 bore. My only question is: Is the deck height of the 5.3L Iron block the same as the LS1/LS6 alum. block. What draws me to this question is because if you were to use LS1/LS6 heads on a 4.8/5.3/6.0 block, the compression would be lower, but LS1/LS6 engines have a high compression. So is it the block that differs or the pistons/ rods? So many questions, so little time . Please say it’s the rod length or the pistons.

did you say LS6 Heads will lower compression on a 6.0?

Personally, I wouldn't fool with the 4.8L/5.3L block at all if I was going to build something. In the parts classified section there are tons of 6.0L blocks/shortblocks/parts for sale cheap. Get the 6.0L block because the bigger bore(4.0") will help any head you put on it flow more than the smaller 3.9 bore size of a punched out 5.3L block.

The LS1's have higher compression because of flat top pistons and smaller combustion chambers. The deck height is the same for all Gen III variants(4.8, 5.3, 5.7, 6.0L) at 9.24". The 4.8L has longer rods to make up the deck height with the shorter stroke.

As far as the computer is concerned, it is one of the most versaltile systems ever IMHO. There are several tuning programs that allow you to use your laptop to make changes. There are also several vendors here that can get you set up with a custom tune for any changes you make.

OH, and WELCOME to the site.

I wouldn't bother doing the 5.3L over the 4.8L. Both are good motors and the 4.8L has a better rod ratio than the 5.3L. If you are going to do any motor swap just do it right the first time and do a 6.0L block. Stroke is up to you.

Dez Racing is putting together a mean lil 4.8L STS combo which should turn some heads. It's in a RCSB truck also.

I opted for a 370ci long rod setup since I had to rebuilt the motor anyway.
Ya You all know what I am going to say. Go with the 4.8l. There is power to be had with the smaller engine. As for a 4.8l with a radix. I made 450rwph with mine when it had a radix on it. The thing was very, very fun on the street and ran some good numbers at the track to
