New to the forum. Got some engine questions.
Just picked up an automatic ’05 4.8l rcsb on Sunday for $13,500.00. Id like to build a motor for this or maybe STS turbo it. I personally prefer the motor building route because it gives me the option of a turbo in the end if I really want. What do you all think?
While snooping around ebay I found 5.3L blocks for $75.00. Jegs has a 402ci rotating assembly for $2400.00. Or worst come to worst I could use the 5.3L crank and bore the block to a 6.0L and up the compression and use a nice flowing set of LS1 heads. My only worry is the computers in these trucks. How versatile are they? Am I beating a dead horse going this route? Looking for some opinions on making serious power. Thanks

I wouldn't bother doing the 5.3L over the 4.8L. Both are good motors and the 4.8L has a better rod ratio than the 5.3L. If you are going to do any motor swap just do it right the first time and do a 6.0L block. Stroke is up to you.
Dez Racing is putting together a mean lil 4.8L STS combo which should turn some heads. It's in a RCSB truck also.
I opted for a 370ci long rod setup since I had to rebuilt the motor anyway.

there's no substitute for cubic inches. how deep are your pockets? keep in mind that your "options" of adding a power adder later on means you will spend more on it with a bigger motor as opposed to a stock motor. for example, my P1-SC would crank out 13+PSI on my old 4.8 (while it lasted) but is all it can do to make 6-7 with my new motor.

Not that I have much personal experience, but a 4.8/5.3 block max bore is 3.8ish. The 6.0 block starts at a 4" bore and safely goes up to 4.03"
