New Converter and gears
#4
With the replys that I have gotten from this question, I have a 2500 stall and 3.73 gears for sale too. Mr.Mix, are you saying that you got 5 tenths from that converter and gear setup with no other changes. It's hard to tell what gains that I have made from my modifications. When it was stock it ran a best 15.77 at 75*. Now at 85-90* it is slower 15.88 even though I added a HPP, free mods and an Air Box. We will se Friday what kind of gains the converter and gears will make.

Whatever!!! It did it on my truck.I've got different plans and more money to spend so my goals require a different set up.If you are going all out, yes get the bigger converter and gear, but if not and you want a little bit of performance gains and still want your truck to be conservative go smaller. It all depends on what kind of money you want to spend, how far you are willing to go and also how much money you want to spend on gas every week.

I wanted to know if you got .5 just from the converter and gears, I would be happy with that. That means that I would get my truck into the 14's with good air and temps. Thanks for the info it makes me feel more confident with what I have done.

.5 maybe. That is not a whole lot of converter. A 2600 will only give .2 to .4 , and the gear should get you out of the whole quicker by a tenth or two.

That's a weak converter choice for a truck. I've got a 2001 Tahoe with a 3000 stall converter and 3.42 gears. It's perfectly driveable and it knocked about 6 tenths off of my ET. 60' times dropped from 2.40s & 2.50s to 2.10s. The right converter will help a lot more than gears IMO.

The vortec 350 is better on the bottom end. So why the converter? LMFAO at a 3800 stall on a vortec 350. Unless it had major mods. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" />
My brother in law is running 14.9-15.0 with no stall and some basic junk done to his 96 single cab vortec 350.
