New Converter=Soft Shifts?
#1
Buddy Of mine just got a Yank 3200.Truck is a 2002 chevy SCSB with 5.3 3.73 gears all i can say is WOW. It Brake stalls about 3400 actually and when he launches its unreal. The only question is now the shifts are really soft and the trans just kinda slides into the next gear. Theres no "jump" of any kind on the shifts. Will a Converter do that to the shifts or could there be a bigger problem? I have convinced him to try a Vette Servo b/c its pretty cheap to try and firm up the shifts a bit. what else could we do besides a shift kit? any answers help. thanks Justin

i had one installed last night and upon the first use, shifts were really soft, they seem to have gotten a little better, but definatly not like before.. mine was a 2800.

The converter will "absorb" some of the shift firmness b/c of the higher stall. I had to pull my 3200 out and when I drove it with the stock converter I was like WOW! The shifts were neck breakers. I believe it's b/c of the clutch slippage (normal) in the converter that makes the shifts seem softer.

Under part throttle the shifts should be noticably softer because if will be dropping below the rpm of the stall. under WOT I am not so sure that it should be much softer than usual. Also, if the servo, and a shift kit don't firm it enough after that, then nothing will.

No, i want to buy the converter, hahah
it also depends if the converter is set to lock up or not, in ls1edit you can choose true or false,
also, like they said above, the converter is absorbing the slower mph shifts, at higher rpms, it should be ok.
what kind of name is "quickenuf", you can never be quick enough,

You should put a shift kit (like Transgo) when you go to a higher rpm TC, you will like it and really enjoy the new TC. That's just my two cents worth.
