Any track times with that? What does that put him cranking at?
Did you guys raise the rev limiter? It's tuned I assume.

Well, we are dealing with two measurements here - duration and lift. The lift is .050 and the duration is 214 intake or 220 exhaust. Basically thats saying that at .05 of an inch from the base of the cam, how many degrees of crank rotation the valve is open. Most cams are measured at the .050 mark, just as a way to compare different cams. But since that .050 lift is just one point of the lobe, its impossible to use it for a direct comparison. If you knew the duration numbers for .100 .200 .300 etc... then you could easily chart out a rough shape of the lobe and get a feel how the lobe compares to another lobe. You could call this 214/220 cam a standard or reverse split cam depending on your viewpoint.

I'd personally like to see how this truck would respond with cutting down the exhaust lobe duration to 215, no advance, and a 113 LSA.

**Correction to the post**

I was misinformed on the mods-this truck has the stock pulley, stock fans, and factory catalytic converters. This truck, other than the K&N FIPK, the muffler, the headers, and the new cam, is stock!

And, yes, these numbers were between the stock cam and the new "old man truck cam."

302 rwhp-not too bad for a slightly modified 5.3L!

Jonathan did you have to tune with edit. I think I talked to you about a month ago about getting a cam and you suggested the 212 218 high lift with a 114 lobe for my 5.3. After getting the results of the OLD man cam do you think it would be a better choice? I plan on getting a tune but I have to drive my truck 2hrs out of town to someone that has ls1 edit? It might take a few months before I get there and until the time that it will be installed to the time that I can get my truck down there I dont want to have any problems with the vaccum or idle issues. Also which sounds more stock the OLD man cam or the 212 218?

onequick5.3,
Both the 212/218 high lift cam and the Old Man truck cam do not require tuning-they run great and gain big power with the stock tune. Also, both sound stock, so it is hard to say!
Hope this helps!

with the higher rpm of this cam i'm not seeing how the stock rev limit and shift points on the stock pcm program are going to work for it.

Was these gains done by using ls1edit or some kind of tune ?
If that is untuned 302 rwhp then I might have to get me one.
