Do you think there is a REAL difference between the blue import filter and the red K&N? Seriously...I wish there were a way for me to test the flow and filtering ability of the two...any ideas? My buddy has a K&N I could borrow that he dropped $200+ on....he feels kind of lame now that we hooked up like 5 trucks with my set up for the price of his 1 K&N...heh

Oh and the end of the "blue bankok" filter has another depressed conical filter sunk into the center, I think I remember K&N has these too, they call them K&N EXTREME or something like that just add $30 for this feature...right???

the open elements are ok , i have a K&N FIPK myself. but keep in mind that the open element also sucks hot air in from the engine compartment, noit the best performance wise. my next choice will be either a UPD or volant , they come with boxes and actually suck " cold air" of somesort. i got a dyno sheet with my K&N and it showed 7 rwhp, wich is pretty good for 250$ AEM's brute force claims 13 and there pretty much the same and the AEM cost more , go figure. have fun.

My bro and I rigged up a little cold air action last night on his '00 5.3 RCSB, ran it from the tow hook opening to the "filter element box" same concept as the $140 dollar VOLANT scoop...tested it in a getto way...we scrounged up a leaf blower, turned it on and pointed at the inlet from various distances...it really blew air up to the filter!!! Now, I suppose I going to hear the "turbulance" around the filter argument or does that just have to do with the tube...I forget.... Also, why does the open element get hot air but a box get cooler air??? Seems like it would definitely be a negligible amount, at best. But I doubt there would be anything more than a 5 degree difference...right?

well open element is just that , OPEN, so it gets all the hot air from yo enjun compartment, a cold air BOX is made so that the air is sucked from the bottom, cold air falls , hot air rises.the colder the air , the more denser which means mo air to the motor which means more air to be pushed out, in turn mo powa... and the so called RAM AIR really doesnt start affectin performance until around 75 up cause thats when you get enough speed to actually push it in there.... as far as the filters go, it all depends on how many microns it filters, the more the better, and what type of material its made out of. but what do i know i bought an open element, DOH!!

I WISH i would have gotten the Volent over the K&N. Sure, the huge open element flows a little more, but the volent actualy flows COLD air. With headers it gets hot under my hood, and in traffic i can feel the lost power from the hot air the engine is breathing.

Thats weird, I noticed a huge drop in underhood temps when I put my headers on. Are yours coated?
