Default Need some advise on exhaust size

Ok, the stock exhaust pipe is 2 and 3/4 inches right?

I had bought a Dynomax Ultra Flo, 2.5" center in/out. (I still have it collecting dust)

The exhaust shop I took it to to install it said it was too small, so they sold me a Magnaflow 3" center in/out, same size muffler in every other dimension.

I need a louder exhaust. Sooooo, do you guys think a 2.5" Dynomax Ultra Flo would be louder than the 3" Magnaflow? The muffler case is the same size.

...Also, would a single 2.5" Dynomax Ultra Flo flow enough to support a warmed over 4.8? I know its not a big motor.

Finally, would this muffler be a bottleneck if I were to swap in a 6.0 or 5.3 down the road? ...and... if the --2.5" Dynomax-- would bottleneck a 6.0 or 5.3 then would my current 3" Magnaflow also be a bottleneck? What I'm saying is, is if the Magnaflow that I have now won't support a 6.0 or 5.3 then It doesn't matter that the 2.5" Dynomax won't support a 6.0 or 5.3.

huh? dynomax and magnaflow will be about the same volume with the same size casing. they are both identicle design.

why not stick with what you got. assuming both casings are the same size.

you should get the 3 inch tho
Thats what I would have thought, but the Dynomax is packed with fiberglass, while the Magnaflow is packed with stainless steel.

...Besides that though, I've heard several times that Magnaflow is a mellower sounding muff while the Dynomax Ultra Flos can be quite loud.

Maybe there wouldn't be much difference in sound though?

i doubt its very much. ive had a dynomax on my 94, and it wasnt very loud even after getting old and being way broken in.

honestly i dont htink the slight noise level would be worth the money, plus the magnaflow will last longer

You Ultra-Flo whould be fine. They should be able to stretch it to 2.75" with their bender. As far as which one will last longer, they are both stainless, so that shouldn't be a concern.
