Need opinions/advice
#1
Hey guys im sure some of you have seen my couple threads going around about my L33 build. Its going great so far and i am planning to do the swap sometime in the middle of march. The engine is pretty much assembled and now i need some opinions/advice. I ordered some used OE rockers off of ebay and i am wondering which direction i should go with. I have seen a lot of stuff about comp trunnion issues so im 2nd guessing going that route. I realize not everybody is experiencing problems with them, but with this build i dont want to second guess it or have to pull valve covers to replace trunnions every 20k. So what im considering is the comp trunnions, harland sharpe trunnions, or just say screw it and go with CHE rockers. This will be a DD and see average DD rpm's. Along with that i will be buying a pushrod length checker and buying pushrods accordingly. Im thinking .050"-.060" preload would be good for the lifters??? As far as pushrods i have been looking at some 5/16" chromoly pieces on BTR's website. Any tips and advice are apprecited guys, thanks!

I checked that kit out too, has there been problems associated with the summit kit like the comp kit? The galling/excessive wear on the trunnion bearing surface? Also what about the pushrods?

I installed the Comp trunnions with my new cam, no prob so far
track or street, used Brian Tooley 7.4 push rods and Pac springs
from E-Bay, way cheaper prices. if you want rollers look at Summit's
own brand, made really well. big bearings. i am looking at there 1.8
rollers for more lift.

Thanks turboal1. Everything i have read about the CHE rockers sounds promising and it sounds like they are the most stable when compared to other trunnion upgrades. There havent been many long term tests on them though and that proce is kinda painful to think about. Good idea on the rollers but that seems a little over kill for my application. Already have most of the valvetrain done. Phil at advanced inductions handled that, now just missing rocker, rocker stands, and pushrods.

Also what about spark plugs? I have had great experience with running AC Delco iridiums and platinum plugs. I have been reading where a lot of guys go with a colder range spark plug on high compression builds or FI. Should i look into a tr6 or would i be fine sticking with iridiums or platinums? Also any recommended plug wires or just stick with OEM?
Thanks guys

ive been running the summit brand for 10k miles now with no issues in my daily/tow rig
you dont want roller rockers as most spring kits cant handle the extra weight and will encounter valve float at higher rpms.
car I did had rollers, the dude wouldnt listen. his setup had enough parts to pull 7000 rpms but on dyno it died badly at 6200...swapped out the rockers for stock ones with the trunion and it pulled 7000 like it was supposed to. he was young and dumb and didnt want to listen
these arent SBC you dont need to use any rocker besides stock for 99% of ppl on this site
