yes, i did some searches on tuning for cams and just did what everyone else does. it could probably be a little better but i change things fast enuff it isn't worth my time to get it perfect.

the way it is now my idle is at 850rpm, i get a slight surge when i slow down like from 10-5mph, it never dies, sounds retardedly mean when cold and just real lumpy when warm. my stall is more like a 2800 and the truck is much slower out of the hole vs the stock cam(need a 409)

Do you care about low end torque at all? If yes, its too big. If no, you need a higher stall converter.

the amount of low end you'll lose with that cam, compared to the other choice is minimal considering EITHER will make more low end than you have currently with your 5.3

edit, didn't see what you were saying there, yeah with that cam and a 370 he might be at the same tq as he has now but a smaller cam would be faster unless he goes with a biger stall, it is all about the combo

Well yes i like lowend torque but im more of a top end guy..i mean i dont plan on takin my truck to the track..i usually race from a roll when i do...I just want sumin to beat all these damn lightnings around here...and also i talked to jason from texas speed and he seems to think that the 231/231 would be perfect...i guess im just gonna have to pick one and find out

There is definitely a difference in peak torque and low end torque. You'll probably have more peak torque with the bigger cam, but lower low end torque. Just as Parish8 was describing, its coming up with the right mix of mods that work well together. A big cam with little stall will be slower off the line, but faster from a roll. If you properly choose your mods to compliment one another, you'll end up with better ETs and MPH.

Take a look at some of Parish8's pictures with the GTECH overlay graphs. Those are a great example of how his truck is slower getting to 80 mph with the big cam than the stock cam, but you can see the big cam pulling hard once it gets the truck moving.

I'm cheap, so I'd be buying a used cam that was close to what I wanted to try, then I could sell it for roughly the same amount if I wanted to go with something different. My cam, headers, springs, retainers, pulley, and nitrous were all used when I got them.

If I were wanting a cam like you seem to want, I'd contact Futrell Motorsports and buy a F13 114lsa cam. 230/232 .59x lift 114 LSA.

I just saw this post.. Unless you change converters, Big Tex is correct. You'd be the wiser to get a smaller cam like a 224..

Given your future mods and the cams you've listed as options, the TSP 228R would make more useable power than the TSP 231/237 for your application. Anyone that tells you otherwise has no clue. You can read about the cams on TSPs website..

TSP 228R info: 2100-6600 rpm great mid range and top end.
TSP 231/237 info: 2800-6700 rpm 4000+ stall and steeper gears recommended.

Also, I will have a TSP 228R cam for sale soon.. PM me if your interested..
