Default Need help with new intake?

Hey there!

I need a new intake for 02 silverado 5300. I'm using a volant with tube but i noticed the seals are cracking and looking bad! i did email volant they said they have re-designed the airbox competely and new seals will not work with the old style airbox which i have. I was talking with a guy who has a 02 gmc 5300 with a injen air intake and he said WOW what a difference and pick up 2.5 mpg!! I said can see it, he said sure its pretty cool with a polished airbox and HUGE polished tube to the TB! So my question is are these intakes worth it or stick a kn or volant system? also, i have installing a functional ram air hood so i need some advice on what works well with that too!!! i will send pic when everything is done!

thanks guys

Default Air Intake

Hi, To Be Honest, You Will Probably Be Better To Go With A System Called True Flow. I Have One On My Truck And It Made A Big Difference. I Have Seen Several Trucks That Had The Polished Intake Tube Have Problems, The Tube, Being Polished, Would Get Extremely Hot And Caused Driveability Issues. And These Supposed Cold Air Kits That Replace The Factory Air Box Are A Joke. They Leave An Exposed Air Filter Or Element Exposed To Hot Underhood Air. The True Flow Kit Uses The Factory Airbox That Draws Cold Air From Inside The Fender And Uses A Foam Element That Flows Better And Protects Better Than A Conventional Filter. It Then Replaces The Air Tube With A Wrinkle Finish Powder Coated Tube. Its A Sweet Setup And It Looks Great Also.

slp, KN, and volant are all nice setups. I have the 77 series KN with the polished tube, I recently just wrapped the intake tube with header wrap and dropped 20 degrees off my IAT's...

So did you notice a difference in the way it ran when you did that?

yes, around town my throttle response was a little better, and on the top end it had more response too. the day I put the wrap on it was about 70% humidity and 90 degrees in the evening when I was logging data before/after the mod. IMO it's worth the 40 bux i spent on the wrap/stainless locking ties. I wish I had dyno #'s or something, but you can definately tell the difference.
