Need help deciding on Intake
#1
My current intake system consists of:
Airaid Intake Tube (plastic)
Stock MAF (of course)
K&N Air Filter
Stock Filter Box (unmodified)
I have heard good and bad about many aftermarket systems. Are there any Intake systems out there that would be better than this set up I have? What is the best?

I like the Volant because:
- Its made well
- its a cone filter surrounded by a box (sheilds heat)
- has 3" hole with flange on bottom to add their ram air tube or you can make one out of $5-10 worth of parts at Home Depot
- it looks good, blends in with factory parts
- has smooth round tube to throttle body
I got mine for $250 shipped on ebay

That's pretty tuff to beat! TBYRNE also has Volant's on special from time to time (I think maybe even NOW) and they are also very nice. Here is a link:

I ran a number of different config's on the stock airbox, and I had a UPD on for a short time. None of them made me as happy as the stock airbox.
With the modded stock box, I chopped holes in it, duct taped others up, removed snorkels, and even made a true sealed ram air system. The ram-air setup actually did work on the highway, but around town it was a complete DOG. The others pulled pretty good, but they were flat off idle or gave poor throttle responce, so that bugged me enough to go back to stock.
The UPD pulled good, but the intake tube kept cracking, and the throttle responce was again lacking.
I love how the stock box has that snappy throttle responce, and pulls SEAMLESSLY at all RPM's.
I tried running the drop-in filter I'm running now back when the truck was 99% stock, but I didn't notice anything so I put the paper filter back in. I put my exhaust on sometime later, and figured I'd give the cotton-gauze another try. THAT's when I noticed a difference with it. I found that a little interesting.
