Default Need Help with cams??

Hello everyone

I have a 02 silverado ecsb 5.3L auto 3:73, i need help with what cam to pick, but the mods won't go into effect till next spring, cause saving money to drop it and add 20s in a month or so (still paying on my truck). this is what i've done so far Volant air intake with scoop, pulleys, MSD 8.5mm super conductors wires, corsa exh, Granatelli mass airflow sensor, and predator programmer. I recently found this website and it's most helpful on everything about chevy trucks and more, but i need good advice about what kind of cam to use? the most i have been hearing about is the cam tr220? can anyone tell me what pn# it is and i think its a compcam too or any cam with a awesome lope. I have 1:8 full roller rockers from crane cams and i plan to get the springs, seats, seals, and titanium retainers. Also, i want a yank convertor and B&M shift kit to really make my truck to kick ***!!!

If anyone can help me with a cam please do

thanks

The Thunder Racing TR220 is a badass cam and many people have had good luck with it. I had a Comp 222/224 in my truck and it was good but was a bit of a dog off the line due to my extremely heavy wieght being 4wd ec and having a big sound system and a tool box full of ****. Im selling it if you are interested I blew 5.3. It wouldnt be too bad in your light truck compared to mine with a stall in it. Did you get the crane golds? If not then dont forget you need pushrods.

how come it is slow off the line with a heavier truck? just because the rpm's dont climb as fast?

thats not a problem with a higher stall though is it? say a 3200? what did you have?

if you go with the tr220, stay with the stock 1.7 rocker ratio

Combination of both and the lsa it is cut on. 1.8s arent needed get the cam that will work to begin with accelerated lift rocker arms are just a patch for a small cam or stock cams they arent needed when going with an aftermarket cam. I only went with aftermarket cause I wanted the strength and mine are only 1.75 but Im getting rid of those too they wont be going on the 408.

More overlap = more lope. Cams with long intake durations and tight lsa's will lope more.

Check out Comp's site, they have some that like higher ratio rockers.

The Comp 216/220 would work nicely with some 1.8's. You'd probably want about a 3k stall with that cam in a 5.3.
