Default need help with buddies truck

well got a friend, has a 04 escalade ext with a 6.0, He told me today it sounded like a sewing machine. said it was loud that he could hear it in the cab with the windows up and the radio on. he thinks its the lifters. if so, where should he buy the lifters from? also what is all needed to swap the, out?
Im going to swap them for him and all i can think of is the new lifters, head gaskets, and new head bolts. just curious as how to change them? i know how to get to them, just wondering do i just pull the old ones out and put the new ones in? or do i have to lubricate them or is there any special way they need to sit? and also if anybody knows where i can get the lifters from cheap, the dealership wants 55 dollars each for them. thanks fellas

SDPC has the LS7 lifters also, I think that they're about $120 for the set. You'll need head gaskets and bolts, and I'd guess intake gaskets also. I've always submerged hydraulic lifters in oil in the past, I'd assume that hydraulic rollers are the same. Should be as easy as pulling the heads, and putting the new lifters in the same way that the old ones come out. I've seen pictures of guys installing the lifters already in the trays...I haven't replaced any GENIII lifters myself yet, but if they don't just pull out of the trays, I suppose you could unbolt the trays and lift them out with the lifters in them, then install the new lifters into the trays in the same direction as the old ones. Speaking of trays, there are four of them, and I think that they're only $7 each, so it might not be a bad idea to replace them also.

I believe that 04 is the year that the 6.0 switched over to all of the same length, shorter head bolts. Check our sponsors such as SDPC and Texas Speed, they sell head swap sets that include gaskets and bolts. IIRC, TSP has drop down lists that include different years, engine size, etc. that should take the guesswork out of it.

I believe that the LS2 head gaskets are the same as the older 6.0 head gaskets, but I'm not 100% sure so don't go ordering these until someone confirms this...

These are the bolts (if the engine was produced after May 04)...

http://www.texas-speed.com/shop/item...id=91&catid=36

They have kits that include everything for a head and cam swap for $184.99 for a 6.0....I could have sworn that they had head gasket and bolt sets w/o the cam stuff, but I can't seem to find it now...

*EDIT* since the truck's an 04, it's kinda tough to know which bolts you need, it all depends on when the engine was made. The engine may have been made in 03. There should be a production date for the truck in the door jamb...if the truck was produced in 03, then the engine must be an 03, and you'll need the longer and shorter bolts...

The switch was in may 2004 I believe if the block was cast before then then you need the short and long bolts. Check the pad in front of the passenger side head.

Im not so sure the VIN will tell them when the block was cast. If the escalade is a 2004, there's a good chance the block was cast in 2003.
