Default Need Help With 4L80E Swap

Can you guys give me a little advice on a 4L80e swap in my 04 silverado. It's a cable less throttle setup so I'm not sure what I need to do as far as tranny control. How about install tips guys

Check out www.turbotruck.net. Jim has a lot of good information on his site. Maybe someday I'll get mine done and can give some real world advice to some peeps.

BTW...sent you a PM.

Oops...look's like someone's exceeded their bandwidth for this month.

Basically, you need:
  • crank spacer & bolts
  • 6.0L flywheel
  • fabbed crossmember (the mount is farther back than the 60-e)
  • Speartech conversion harness & custom tuning (the truck PCM will control it, just needs the correct flash)
  • shortened driveshaft (although I've heard of some folks staying w/ the stock 60-e shaft, an aftermarket shaft would be a good idea for any high HP apps)
  • modified cooler lines

I'm also going w/ a Yank TT3200HD converter, although the PI triple disc units look really nice and probably what I would have gone with if they were out when I got my Yank. I'm also going w/ a Transgo shift kit and separator plate in mine, along w/ a huge-by-large tranny cooler.

Am I missing anything guys?

You are going to hafta contact Speartech and get a file from a 4l80e equipped truck. I am not sure about the '03 and ups but I had a problem because no 01 or 02 trucks came from the factory with a 4l80 and ETC. I had to lose the ETC and go to a cable throttle.

Sounds good guys! I emailed Speartech already The 4.8l lived at 22psi but the 4l60 doesn't LOL I'm a little worried about the ETC & the 4l80e conversion. I really am leaning towards a cable throttle conversion, but don't really know all the tricks to make that work. My 04 always tried to pull away throttle at wot with high boost & it would drop 10psi+ when the computer tried to do it

Crap...I didn't even think about that. So since my tranny is a 2003 and it's going into an 01, I'm gonna have to get the cables and all from a 2002 or older truck?

The hardest part of the throttle conversion is installing the pedal for the cable type system. You will need a TB, a TB harness (from Speartech), a cable, cable bracket to mount the cable to the intake, and a pedal assy. Then you will need a cruise control module, cable, and associated wiring (which Speartech did not carry when I did mine). Was a PITA but once the conversion is done, you will wonder why you didn't do it sooner.

You shouldn't have any issues with it being a fly by wire throttle. I didn't. The hardest part is fabbing the crossmember up.

I got a file from Speartech and uploaded it into my PCM and started editing. You will also need a wiring harness from Speartech to hook it up. Other than that, it's all plug and play.

I would advise getting a new driveshaft made though. The one you have now will work, but it needs a new yoke on the front (assuming you're in a 2wd and not 4wd).

Any other questions, PM me.
