Default Need advice on What to do for the air intake

Its a '05 gmc sierra 1500 with 4.8L and auto. Only mods so far is a 4.56 gears, slight tune, and replacing stock muffler. In a couple of weeks Im going to redo the catback, underdrive pulley and pacesetters with ory.

What should I do for the intake? Ive read a lot of them are a waste of money. Should I just cut some holes in the bottom of the airbox?

Well, you only have a 4.8L so you're not moving that many CFM. Here's a dyno of my 6L, with ported heads, cam, high compression. The lower dyno line is with the entire air intake system removed so the TB was wide open. Only gained 6 RWHP past 5K rpm. I had more HP and TQ under the curve with the factory airbox. You won't even see that on your 4.8L. Waste of money. I won't even put one on my motor.

I have had several, i even made a few.. Honestly i like my Airraid one the best... It is for 05+ (Efans), the reason i like this one is becuase it does not have the hard turn into the TB like other ones, cause it is made especially for trucks with efans.

Not anymore, i used to.... I broke down and bought a full air raid kit... Like this one... Both links have to be used with efans... They have different PNs for non-efan trucks....

thanx for the graph hirdlej. Im surprised you didnt gain more. Is your truck tuned to run on speed density?

BlackGMC, did you see any gains with the intake? Does it at least sound better?

Honestly it is best one i have tried... I keeps the IATs temps down and it helps them recover faster... The fit is great with the truck intake and LS6 intake... The kit itself is better than most i have tried....It does sound different, alot more intake noise...

I run the stock air box with a K&N filter....stock neck and everything. I also pulled mine on the dyno in speed density without the induction on it at all and it made less hp and less torque. I did cut a 5" square out of the front of mine.....the bottom is not modified. I went 12.61 with that setup. The intakes sure look alot better than stock so its all in what you want. Might not help much but you will look better doin it.

I refuse to spend $200-300 on an intake that really won't gain me much over stock, if at all.

Meh, save your money and put it towards something worthwhile. The stock airbox left alone will flow enough for 95% of truck combo's
