my truck wont start need help please!!!
OK i was at the gas station pumping gas for my wife cause she was cold, while my 2001 chevy with the 4.8 was sitting idling no more than 5 minutes. When i got back in my truck it had died and wouldnt start back up. The fuel pump is not coming on the fuel gage bottomed out below empty which means the sending unit isnt working either. The 20amp ECM fuse was poped so i replaced it and it imediatly poped again. I traced the wires the best i could without tearing it apart thinking it might be a bad wire but didnt find anything. There was a trailer hooked up at the time this happened but i wouldnt think that would be linked to the ECM but i dont know. I had problems about a month ago and once before then to with the truck not wanting to run. It would idle but when you gave it gas it would miss and backfire through the intake. I dont Know if the ECM is bad or the fuel pump is bad or what so please any advise would help.

Sounds like there is high resistance in the fuel pump circuit from the tank connector in. I've seen guys breaker that circuit looking for the short, finally removed the tank to find the fuel pump wires melted.

The circuit is quite simple. Your truck wants a fuel pump. I have seen this a few times, very possible. just not super common. Check fuel filter if you see black fuel come out inlet that is another sign of fuel pump brush wear. Oh you asked where high resistance is? It is in the fuel pump itself, brushes armature-not sure never been that courious.

Chances are you had the same thing that I experienced a month ago, but mine did not pop a fuse. The connector, if it is the old square type, is prone to failure. I hav epictures of the old and new style connector. See the post I made about replacing your fule pump:

All of our delco pumps come with the connector upgrade, needed or not. High resistance from wore pump burns connector before wire(more resistance in connector = first place to melt.)

Its fixed it turned out to be the fuel pump after all. It did like powerpimp said and had a lot of black fuel come out when i disconnected the fuel lines. So if you have a problem with the ECM fuse poping you should check your fuel pump. Thanks for all the help guys!
