I hear it has positive results. I mean what the hell, right? I have everything to do it so it's not like it's costing me anything.

The problem with burning oil is that the octane of oil is much much lower than gasoline (think running diesel in your engine) and can cause detonation that otherwise wouldnt be there.

Here's my catch can. It's been on about a week, with moderate driving, and some hard driving last night looking for races
My digicam is 5 years old so bear with me here....

I just got done doing this same mod. Just wondering if you guy replaced your PVC when doing this? I did, and when I checked my stock PVC it had no ball inside of it like the new one I got. Did you guy notice this too? Maybe this is why we have so much build up. There is just a tiny hole and the PVC is hollow.

Default Fixed orifice PCV

That is the fixed orifice PCV that is supposed to help with oil consumption. This one is recommedned in a TSB somewhere. I'd clean it out and leave it in. They are only available at the dealer.
Your talking about on your 02 right? Your 01 probably still has the springloaded (old) valve type. I think they started putting them in 02 as OEM.

Default Duh!!

Oh! O.K I just read your signature again and I see your 2500 is a Duramax. I'm not even sure if they have a PCV. I know the 8.1 does not. Maybe it was 03, but I'm pretty sure they are on all 4.8, 5.3 and 6.0's now.

No this is for the 2002 5.3L 2WD not the Duramax. Here are some pics.

So, I should put back in the stock PVC w/o the ball in it, and throw away the new one w/ the ball?
