Default my own ss truck

Knew to the board first post. I just bought a 1990 454ss pickup. The engine and trans are gone. I just bought a complete 99 camaro 5.7 engine and trans. Any ideas on what king of performance I should expect from this combo? weight should be around 3900-4000pounds. Should I change the cam?212-218 cam? The truck program will have no emissions on it. What about a stall convertor?

I would say somewhere in the 14.3-14.5 range if everything is stock.

If you do a 3200rpm stall which would work well with your setup I would say you could get into the 13s NP.

I would weigh the truck though. If you can get an accurate weight I could figure it out. Keep in mind that most F-bods weigh 3550lbs and most new short bed trucks weigh close to 4500lbs? I couldnt recomend a cam as I am not familiar with how to choose one for a truck. But in an F-bod a solid 220dur to 224 dur cam works great.

PS. My first truck was a 90'454 SS. I love that truck, sold it to a buddy who still has it all tricked out.

thanks for the reply. I weighed the truck with the engine and tranny in the back of the truck and it cam in at 3920 pounds. Gotta love that aluminum v8. Who's a good place to get a stall from.

thanks
Shawn

Both Yank and Precision Industries makes a great stall for those trans.

I think you can find their links on the righ in the sponsor section.

What?! You have a 1/2 ton with a BBC in it in the driveway! Toss the heads for some AFR's and get some hard-core power from it...I think that TBI will have to move also.

yeah, my dad gave it to me when i turned 16 and i drove it for about a year before getting the silverado. it wasn't a real good daily driver so i decided to pretty much make it a trailer-quality truck that can still ride around town. your idea was ok, but i was thinking more along the lines of a heads/cam 496 with accel DFI and alittle nitrous
