Default My 4.8 wanted a cam..but now my 6.0 will need one!

alright guys i need some input. i want to put a cam in my 4.8, but have no idea what size i want. i know alot of ppl have put 224/224 in but i dont know if thats the cam for me. i want to get as much hp out of the little engine as i can, id like it to lope, but its my daily driver so i cant go crazy. i have a 5-speed so driviblity isnt as much of an issue. im gonna port and polish the heads and get bigger valves. after all of this im gonna get it dyno tuned. the truck came with shorties on it so there gonna stay for now later on down the road ill look into changin them over to LTs. any input you guys can give me would help alot.

It'll make better low end power.

Many moons ago, I had the low-lift 212/218 cam in my LR4. The truck made good power and there were no issues with driveability at all.

a 212/218 would be good choice because you said it's your daily driver and driveability would not be an issue

I have a 224/220 581/581 112 in my 4.8 I personally wouldn’t go any bigger….My truck doesn’t start pulling until around 3500 leaving it kind of blah on the low end. The 4.8 isn’t a real torquer to start with putting too much cam in doesn’t help things.
Here is my dyno sheet with stock 3.23 gears. Hope this helps.

TR224 is what i am running, and i dont have any numbers yet with my nelson tune, but with the old dyno tune i had i was at 275 rwhp with wide open headers only....the tune was really bad on that dyno test though. I really need to get to a dyno now that the weather is starting to come around!

driveability is fairly good though and i do not have a stall in as of right now...but with you having a 5-speed it will be much better than an auto

but like introligator said the 4.8 is not a toquer motor, it actually really sucks!! but we deal with what we have....

to be flat out honest with you. the cost of doing a cam and etc is around the same price to purchase a 6.0 in some cases.
