that seems weird though, have any of you guys done it without air tools?
what did you guys use to tighten the asp pulley since there are no holes or anything to tighten it with. there are three bolt holes at the end of the pulley and we are thinking about putting some bolts through that and a piece of metal to wedge against the frame. sound good?
seems weird taht there wouldnt be a way to do it without air tools... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

I am sure it can be done without air tools.... But you would be MUCH better off with a good air impact and the correct puller. It took MTI about 40 min. to install mine on my truck. I was happy about how fast they did it. But I was upset that they charged me about $250 or so. I can't remember the price but I know it was TOO damn much. It was 3 or 4 hrs labor they charged since that was the book time. but it only took 45 min. at the most. I was very happy with my pulleys, just hacked off about the price I paid to get them installed. But oh well, whats done is done and it was a long time ago. I would recomend having a shop or someone with the proper tools install your pulley though.

yah, thats a crapload of money <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" />
im thinking (hoping) our way will work i dont see why it wouldnt, looks like these holes were put here for a supercharger pulley to be bolted on some im sure they would be strong enough to hold a piece of metal while we torque it down
thanks for the info

I tried the install without air tools. After 2 days I took it to the dealer. I talked a mechanic into doing it off the clock for cheap. I was able to get the bolt out of the crank, but could not get the puller on the harmonic balancer b/c the fan blade was in the way. This was a pain-in-the-*** mod. If I had to do this over again, I would gladly pay for this one. I don't know about $250, but 75-150 would be worth it.
I got my underdrive pulley from ASP in Stafford. It was $26 dollars. I am having some charging probs b/c of the fans, so I'm going to look for a higher amp alt. or another pulley that will bring back the volts at idle. The part # on the OD alt. pulley is 540120 if you needed it.

I had my mechanic do it, took him an hour and a half, he charge me $105. He does have air tools and I read to many posts about the problems guys were having, money well spent in opinion.

I spent 3 hours trying to do it without an impact wrench and never got the damned thing to budge. Took about 1 hour with impact wrench for total install. I wouldn't even attempt it without an impact wrench and GOOD puller (mine is crappy and it added at least 30 minutes to the install).

P.S. - Got my ASP's from truckperformance.com for $190 delivered. I think tbyrne.com is about the same price AND a sponsor of this site. I bought mine before I got hooked on <img border="0" alt="[hail]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_hail.gif" /> this board.
